Chicken Coop

Nestled in the woods north of Elmdale is this century-old limestone-block chicken house. A shallow ravine in front offers a pathway for groups of deer. Seven crossed the highway as we approached. One-by-one they gracefully leaped over a gate and dissapeared into the surrounding hills. The silo, posted yesterday, is just to the north. Also nearby is the foundation of what may have been the family home.

Dave, you find such interesting sites. This is a prime example of the combination of photography and history. I wonder how old the two large trees are, and if they were there when the coop was built or planted afterward.

Interesting question, Ray… which came first – the chicken coop or the tree?
