Bookcase, underground at Ellinwood, Kansas – A long buried segment of the towns history is now open for tours. Underneath the city streets is another, underground city. Here you can walk through the tunnels that joined cellar businesses in an earthier economy – bars, gambling, bath houses, and prostitution were the services offered to area menfolk and cowboy passers-by. Recently a section of the highway through Ellinwood was barricaded. Cracks in the pavement showed a collapse into the underground tunnels (a section not on the historical tour).
