Wild Turkey Eggs

Lyon County, Kansas – Local photographer Herb Hobson showed me where these were found, hidden in a thicket near a country home north of Emporia. I didn’t see the mama turkey, but I hear she really explodes out of the nest when disturbed. I’d like some photos of the poults (baby turkeys) as they hatch (if predators don’t find them first), but I don’t want to further disturb the site, or mother turkey.

Mother turkey is pretty smart. She strategically created her nest under poison ivy.

Wonderful tip and I'm so glad you could photograph the nest! I hope to see this sight one day. Have seen poults, even have a close-up on my nature blog, but have not found a nest of eggs yet. Lucky you.
