Emporia, Kansas – Near Lake Mergendahl on the former College of Emporia campus, this nest of trees takes on a Maxfield Parrish mix of colors from lamp posts on the grounds. There are no PhotoShop tricks involved in getting this, it’s just the way artificial lights sometimes render on camera. (Well, I did bring up the blues just a bit to keep the cool feeling of a winter night). Human eyes quickly adjust to a variety of color light sources but camera electronics or film are less adaptable. That adds some extra fun to night photography, especially when a thick fog adds some glow and softness.
Just as in the other “trees” night shot, the light on the right, makes the viewer wonder what or who might be lurking nearby. Two very mystical shots. (No pun intended.) Ray
