Pawnee Rock, Kansas – In an emotional farewell to this distinguished red brick church a memorial ceremony drew hundreds of respectful visitors from across the nation. Membership has declined over the past decades to little more than a dozen. Unable now to adequately maintain the property they have decided to close and dismantle it, rather than to see the much loved site suffer an inevitable decline. The Bergthal Mennonite Church was built in 1915, and was the family church of my wife and her parents when she was growing up.
