Pratt County, Kansas – I noticed this patch off the edge of a country road this morning. I walked up onto a rise on its eastern side for the photo. I suspect it’s a low spot prone to flooding, so the wheat crop is planted around it leaving a circular refuge for wildlife. As I worked red-wing blackbirds flew toward center and vanished in its depths.
