Though I’m not seeing much activity in small creatures yet, cricket frogs are happy in the mud flats at Chase County Lake. Tiny creatures, about the size of a penny, they blend well and would go unnoticed except for the way the pop from place to place as I walk by. These are what I went out to find this afternoon, hopefully on a bubbly bed of algae. They make me get down in the mud to get these shots. I have a mat I use so it isn’t bad. After a bit of rolling around in the muck with them they start to accept me as one of their own, allowing me to get closeup studies. Under the surface, scores of fat polliwogs do a silly looking waddle-swim, scattering from the shoreline as I explore.
