At the edge of a burning field two wasps smell the smoke and think it’s love, occasionally caressing each others antenna.

It’s prairie burning season here. The smoke sticks to the atmosphere and adds a sooty layer to the sky, often blocking the sun. The ground is black and charred from last night’s burn.

The is part of the first wave of early Spring colors in our area. It was photographed backlit by evening light with very low depth of field to get the soft diffused background.

Peter Pan Park – Emporia, KS – Huge flakes are falling across the area this evening, but it’s has a fragility about it. It’s soft and wet, enough to nurture the new life but not cold enough to do harm.
