It’s not unusual, when looking at buildings that were in their prime a century ago, to wonder what day-to-day life was like then.
I like this door as a simple study of texture and color. It has the classic play of warm and cool colors, stone, aged wood and the softening relief of woodbine.
Someone commented that they like the photo except for the lock on the door. I understand that. The lock is a little jarring and out of place. But for me it’s tied in with the meaning of the photo. That door to the past is locked and we can’t pass through it.
