Cowley County State Fishing Lake, east of Arkansas City, Kansas on highway 166 – As one would expect, Kansas doesn’t have a wealth of grand waterfalls, but it does have a few. Located in the southern reaches of the Flint Hills, Cowley County Fishing Lake has a beauty that drops 30 feet across colorful layers of red shale. It’s a difficult climb to the bottom, but it’s a nice place to be on a warm day, in the water spray at the base of the falls, where the steam spills over fossil-embossed limestone boulders. These falls are best viewed in the spring rainy season.
I've lived in and around Cowley County all my life and never knew about the waterfall at the lake. Good work!
