Flint Hills Wildlife Refuge, Hartford, Kansas – As I explore country roads I watch for unfamiliar wildflowers. I’ll pause for a moment, capture a few photos, then add’em to my library of images, a little like butterflies pinned in a display case. The intensely yellow blossoms were spotted about 30 feet from the road on a rich bed of green. I wandered out to study them and soon found myself sinking into a swampy muck. That’s where these thrive, in ponds, marshes, along the edges of ponds.
