This boy was laying in the sun on a minimum maintenance road out in the Flint Hills this morning. I’m sure he expected to get through the day un-annoyed. Nope. I saw a gray fox too, but he was too fast for me. Turtles I can keep up with.

Found this morning on a wild blackeyed susan at the Flint Hills Natl. Wildlife Refuge (near Hardford, Kansas). The little buggers and tiny but have kind of a macho attitude.

Approx 7000 wild mustangs are now in Kansas, living out their days in natural state, mostly on private land. This mare is part of a herd south of Teterville in Greenwood County.
