The Ritz
Council Grove, Kansas – We’ve noticed attempts at launching renovation projects for the old Ritz Theater, but I don’t know the current status.
The Feel of Feathers
Young hands reach out to touch, and to welcome a baby chick.
90
This is my father on his 90th birthday. We didn’t get the fishing trip he wanted, but it was still a great party.
Smoke and Light
Lighting the Fire #2
The crew ATV moves eastward, seeding the fire as it passes. I was panning the camera to follow the ATV as it went by. This is what caused the background to have the strange patterns. Does the photo work? I dunno, but I think it’s interesting in its own weird…
Lighting the Fire
An all terrain vehicle snakes across the nightime fields, setting fire to the prairie grass as it passes.
Prairie Burn – Near Council Grove
I thought Council Grove was on fire last night. I was driving in from the west at 10 p.m., still five miles away looking toward the city, when I noticed the entire horizon was wrapped in flames. Prairie burns are common this time of year, but this was too bright, too…
Dogwood Branches

Bedspring Fence
West of Harveyville – Sometimes you just have to make do with what you have on hand. Among the remnants of an old farm is this livestock pen, incorporating several old bedsprings, and other odd parts to create the fence.
Stone Ruins
This picturesque site is on private land, and was photographed over the top of a gate. But that worked out okay, I used the gate post to steady the camera, and it’s a good angle on the walls. Don Palmer said an old school is, or was, further back on the land. At…
Mountain Biking Kansas – Wabaunsee County
After 4-wheeling some rough, rutted paths to the top of Bobcat Road, we stopped to take a few photos and eat sandwiches. Three mountain bikers, followed up the trail from the north. It’s a beautiful place for that kind of biking, if you’re tough enough….
Dead End
Wabaunsee County back road.
Her Grandmother’s House
I was given permission to climb the gate and photograph this house by a nice lady who said her parents and grandparents used to live here. Again, you can see smoke from local range fires coming over the hill on the left.
Tree and Sky
Very simple lines here, and I have to give credit to Don Palmer who drove me to the top of one of his favorite hills in Wabaunsee County, and pointed out this tree. Leaves should be popping out on the branches soon.
